Weather check
If you are planning to watch the sunset, check the weather guy first. Sometimes it is nice when you leave but overcast when you make it to the top
Overcast
I like to avoid the sky. At post 32 is a great place to take pics of others, being higher and pointing down. No squinting or harsh shadows and a good time to take photos in the old tree.
Taking snow pics when it is snowing/overcast vs waiting to the next when the sun comes out.
After dark
Some leave after the sun sets, but twlight pics are great and photos with the city lights below are cool

Rain or thawing ice or snow.
It will be super muddy and no place to sit or put your blankets
Snow
Fresh snow it is slippery but not that bad

Refreezing
After the snow/ice is refreezing, look out it is very slippery. I have cleats that work ok, but be prepared to fall.

Hot days
If it is hot and there are no clouds, there is no place to hide from the glaring sun. At the crest of the hill there is a spot that has sprinkles of sun and shade. When I use flash it makes hot people sparkle 🙂

Wait until about 40 minutes before the given sunset time to start up the trail
You are likely to be red or hot and perspiring, take a towel to wipe off. Some come prepared for a picnic. If you bring an ice pack covered with a cloth, I bet that would work.
Spotted shade
Taking pics under trees, might make you look like a leopard. If there is a spot for solid shade try that.

Moved these guys to solid shade and used flash

Bright sun
As the sun begins to set, looking in that direction will make you squint. Sun glasses are cool. Looking in the same directions a few minutes later there will be no squinting and you will have a warm glow.

Windy
Because the wind mostly comes from the west, trying to get a pic with the city in the background is tough with long hair.
If you turn your face to the wind (photographer ready) and quickly turn to the camera, you might get a decent shot .

Fall
Waiting for a blue sky and taking photos from Forest Rose, you cam capture an unknown beauty to most of those who lived here all their lives.
