Alumni Photo Project

At the fair they might have been a badge maker booth. If so they will likely go to the Pumpkin Show next,

Someone could walk by and see what they are doing and the cost.

I would guess you have contact with people in the high school. They have photography and math classes I'll bet they would help you figure out costs.

If it were done at the fair, the photos would be taken on the spot, with a printer present.

With a bit of practice the distance from the camera would be a constant. They could have time to walk around a little while and it would be ready when they got back

OR you know people who own businesses that people could stop in and pick their badges up.

They could be made all year around for different occasions

***

I don't know where the alumni is located but for photo connections

At proms, school events the art classes create decorations that visitors walking by at the fair could just set in front of have their pics taken, while a little info was collected
This info could be uploaded to a free google blog that are searchable .. thee could be thousands of entries that would find all matches in a few seconds.

I would guess the alumni would gather lots of attention with a little project .

I had been out of high school for 50 years before I knew the LHS alumni existed, I found it by trying to find out what happened to our park teacher at Utica Park.

Photography is my hobby and I take lots of pics of people on Mount Pleasant. Here is one of them

https://mtp-2022.blogspot.com/

Some times I add notes and have been able to find some pics for people much later.

IF you guys want to go through a dry run, I will help set it up and you can have it set up for the next fair.

I only go to places where I can take my dog .. almost went to the fair Friday, couldn't find a parking place to go on top of mt pleasant and was gonna pay to park

If you do make the photo project happen at the fair next year, I will donate $200. to it.. I can buy a used computer from amazon for that much and do everything on it.

As parks go, Rising Park is great, but it is Mount Pleasant that brings people here.

If u r into Yoga, these girls have classes on Mt. P. :)

I had some badges made of Mount Pleasant (seen from Forest Rose) in the background, Lancaster in the foreground and Kookie.
These r for others who love photography and a few for those who were brave enough to give Kookie pets.
Kind of a purple heart metal for those wounded in action :)

Don't know if I will see em again but I have a few left in case.

2024 Eclipse

 Imagination and things to come

I was here on the partial eclipse and the top of mt pleasant was packed

EVEN if the clouds are spoilers, it will be a big event

Who should be interested in this event, chamber of commerce, the fairgrounds, every high school, visitfairfieldcounty ..

Groups wanting to promote tourism a great draw hmmm

There might be classes on astro photography, how to photograph the event. A great time to get kids interested into astronomy .. but starting the fall of 2013, because it will happen in their school year.

I can see camping sites set up in the fairgrounds, vendors high school bands

it will be a major event here and across the eclipse path

I took these from the fairgrounds the last time.  Don't know if they think they will be closer to the sun but the top of Mt P will be packed I am thinking 😋

Have lots of eclipse glasses ready :)

Goofy people have eclipse parties, special events to coincide with.. it

The coming 2024 eclipse is much closer and I figure it will be kind of like this one

If you can think of any group or business that would be interested in gearing up for the big one you can share this page by clicking one of the small icons below

 Pilgrimage to Mount Pleasant

There are places much higher and further away, but this look out point is special to those on our own turf.

I have photographed from the top of it and photographed it from below.
A long time ago I saw a pic of a bunch of band members standing on top and one day when I took my big telephoto to town, I saw these guys spread across the entire top.

I thought there should be an annual pilgrimage to the top

Thinking it should be a nice day when school is out but not the first 2 weeks because lots of kids are having their graduation party there.

June 23rd the official day of the climb to the mount.
But it should be during the week end, with a nice day.

It can be any time of the day (about an hour before sunset is what I like best)

If you join this facebook group you can post your pics there or get a notification of the event as a reminder. https://www.facebook.com/groups/302659221096890

[ When I join some groups of interest, I turn off notifications and can visit when I get froggy ]

Searching for Mount Pleasant, there are so many .. which one.

I have managed to add the identification of Mount Pleasant in Rising Park, to Google maps HERE. You can add your own review to this map and best photos or video. (don't post a bunch of the same thing) 😏

If you post on Instagram and use the tag #risingpark, I visit there when I am home. Sometimes I take pics of people with their cameras and don't see em.

***

As time moves on, friends and family members scatter all over the place. When they come back to visit they can not visit with all the people they would like to. I have taken pics of those who returned and make it a point to come up on Mt. P. to take in the view.. to show their kids where they grew up.
It does not be on top but if you make a date with school mates, friends n family to have a picnic in Rising Park, you could visit with all of em.

Camera choice

Buying a camera on line or even in a store can be a problem.

If you go in a store and stand they have other customers and they want to move on.

Nothing out, it is all in a box, when you get it home gotta make sure every thing is there. If not you have to pack it up take it to ship it back.
The Sony a65 has been great for me but having problems.

I asked support groups on facebook and no response.

I have been in chat for 30 minutes where someone says wait till I check...

I guess the best way would to find someone who has the cameras you are considering.. so I will try our hometown photographers club.

I can't keep glasses on. I buy them in the 3 packs.

I need a camera that

#1 allows you to review images taken in the viewfinder NOT the lcd

#2 All data displayed on the lcd can also be seen in the viewfinder.

#3 Has time lapse

#4 Built in flash

#5 Quick response, no delay after pressing the shutter button.

Here one person thinks the Canon R50 might show taken photos in the viewfinder but dont have this same camera..

Canon Support Group

If anyone in your group happens to have a canon r50 and might take the time to dabble, simply take a few pics, close the lcd screen and find out if those pics can be reviewed in the viewfinder.

Thanks

Maintance

Single Bush blocker
By the black pipe on top a bush popped up in the last couple years, loses green in the winter. It blocks the view of those who used to sit on the rocks there.. might move it out of the way.

EROSION
A few weeks ago I saw a couple kids starting up the trail then sat in the car looking at my photos. It was not long before they came back. I asked why they did not make it up.

They said they were doing a project for resource management at the college. (I believe I know people, if it were not such a nasty day, they would have been there lots longer)

Through the years it has been a never ending battle to keep the trail in decent shape. Contacting an instructor at the university and inviting them to bring the class out to evaluate the problem, I think they would jump on the idea. Not that they might come up with a solution but to get others thinking about the situation.

If I know people like I think I do, the classes would have an interest and great fun coming out on a nice day.

I bet if the park talked to people at the university, they would take an interest.

EVERGREEN BUSHES TO REPLACE TREES ?
I have been taking my pups to take photos on Mt Pleasant since 2010 (lost my wife) and long before in high school my pals and I used to come up when we got out.

I have seen trees growing on the edge, clumped together and fell down.

They not only block the view of the city below, they also distract from the view below.

The cliff is what separates it from a hill I suppose.

In my yard I have some kind of evergreen bush. It does not grow very high. Removing the trees and making an attempt of planting evergreen bushes is a thought. Getting advice from a nursery of what would work best.

SCHOOL DRESS UP PICS

During the year the school has proms and other dress up events.
I see them having photos taken at the gazebo
Bright sunny day,
I see them squinting and harsh shadows

Under the gazebo backlit their features are in shadows, top middle.
Top right fill in flash helps a bit, I thought they might put a qr code there to hint how to get better photos.
I am sure they teach photography , that would be a great chance for a few to come out and help, include families with them
I think if they just stood riight at the front entrance not under the roof that might work.

In the afternoon the gazeobo side of the pond is bright and sunny but the ooopsite side it is shady. bottom middle. This is the best side to take photos with the fountain in the background, and try using the flash in a couple of the shots.

In the spring the trees are pink. No one working at the park are there at all times, but there are those who plant trees, flowers.. maintaince workers, I bet they would notice and relay the trees are ready for photos.
If bright sun, take photos from the shady side.

Overcast days no squinting or harsh shadows

Observing them, couples, families, or pals,, they come do their thing and are usually gone in 15 minutes.

The shelter house cost nothing to use. It would be a great place for photos and why not plug in music, the school kids and friends/family that came with them could hang out in a social gathering in the shelter and  walk down to the gazebo for pics.

LOST AND FOUND
People sit / lay  or do something and lose all kind of things. Mostly clothes but billfolds, car keys and the like.
At the beginning of the trail by the fountain would be a good place for a box and a QR code.
That qr code could lead to information.
I know lots of people climbing around fall, but in all my years I have seen no one hurt sitting out on the rock. (Kind of like not falling out of the bed when sleeping, but awake and aware 😉
I can think of things relative.
The qr code would include a link that people could report something lost or found. Lots of people live a distance and will not come back except for something lost.
There would also be directions to the police department in case someone found a valuable item.
***
BIKES
From my personal experience, lots of people have bikes not in great working condition.
With spring fever, if, the park offered a bike repair and maintance class, there would be lots of people interested. I believe Luke and others might help out.

Tower

  Observation Tower On Mt. Pleasant

Let's play we are going to build an observation tower on Mt. Pleasant.

A few years ago there was a controversy about putting lights up to shine on  Mt Pleasant.
Those who objected, few ever come out and that faded.
Those for it, only a fraction of the population can see it. No one comes over to sit in the fairgrounds. Because of light fall off it can hardly be seen at perice avenue. I never noticed anyone who came to Lancaster to see the lighted face.
That deed is done.

What would the tower look like below. It could not be seen unless you were a mile away on the west side of town.
If you drove up the hill at Forest Rose it might look something like this.

Walking up the trail.

When you get to the top at the tree line there is a path

The path is here. With lots of rain or after it snows it is muddy.
There would be a sidewalk back and cables on each side to keep people from running around on the plants.

No trees would need be cut down. There is in the clearing where Kookie is laying.

Standing in the opening, looking up, a tower could easily be built with out interfering with wild life or trees.

Share your A.I. design  if you wanna

The bottom deck could have group or family events. The bottom deck would be high enough animals could find shelter.
Not sure of the decks in between but the top would need to be above the trees.

No one has watched a sunrise from Mt. P. but with the observation deck, runners ,  early morning risers  could watch the sunrise and sunset when the clouds were kind.

With solar power cameras any one could check it out. Our home town eye in the sky.

Capturing the sunset with my super telephoto.

People would know when events were going on at the fairgrounds.

After dark, people in their homes here or afar could virtually  stand on Mt P with others  there looking over our city.

If on A.I. you love to play, you can create your own imaginationary tower

Weekend CRUISING

👷

Cruising sounds

Riding around on the weekends and listening to the radio was cool when I was a pup. There were lots of songs about cars.

I like music from the generations that came after me but I don't remember many songs about drag racing .. cruising around with your pals.
What ever your generation .. if they were still riding around beeping their horns n surfing through drive ins, what songs would your pals be playing?

If you are from the Lancaster Ohio area, have pics of cool cars then or now that I can add to this page,
I created this facebook for that

https://www.facebook.com/groups/weekendcruising

What to do when the sun goes down in Lancaster Ohio

.

When I was a pup I always wanted a roaster but only got to ride to the drive inns with pals, till I grew up (kinda) n bought something like it :)

In 2020 during the virus caper someone called for a cruse in and the parking lots were full of people hanging out like back in the day n I drove around with my pup taking pics 😋

Knowing the science of weekend cruising I did a quick paste up of a route

Not just those with cool cars were in to it but all of them were part of the ride.
Guys n girls of all ages loved the ride then and now.

How to organize ... hmmm
*  In your school fb groups

*  Make up some flyers to share at car shows (just here in Lancaster) . to people you will know and those working there

*  Going through the ride route stopping in food places.. I would bet they would go along and have cruse night specials.

*  Car parts places, cycle shops

* There is a new food place that opened up out by the Tractor Supply... Jimmy's Drive (now a truck) they might get into it.

* Mobile food stands, every once in a while I see them popping up in some space with good traffic. They might get in on the cruse nights, finding locations along with the cruse trail.

The red icons on the map are points of interest. To plot out a good map a ride through the route with a camera spotting places of interest where cars could stop and mingle or load up on food.

Some of the places along the route are parking lots to mingle .. places to get gas (those stations might put up flyers)

Me thinking what a fun thing to bring it back for all generations and the kids who only saw it in the movies.

Going to car shows n looking at fancy works of others.. take some pics with the cars, it is OK but hanging out on the streets n parking spots with others after dark.. that is the magic to capture.
Not just those with super cars but the average bears crusing through the streets ... all were parked in the hot spots on weekend nights.

I'll bet one of the radio stations would jump in and take the roll of wolf man jack.. well kind of  😋

I don't know who got the event started (the mayor?) but Kookie n me was just on the way to Walmart n I thought what great pics to capture. If you know any of these guys tell em where they can copy their pics :)

Weekend cruising in Lancaster Ohio
A fun idea .. share the page if u wanna ..

Photo Goals

Here we have a beloved "mountain" where people come to stand and watch the sunset.

Directly below is our fairground.

There are thousands of pics taken of it and from the top of it.

I have taken thousands of pics.. posted a bunch. Often people like n comment but in a short time they vanish on a hard drive never to be seen again.

After a hard drive crash I decided to have some of the pics I like best to make large metal 20x30 prints.

I have made a few no-edit enlargements and have some imaginary images to create.

With my google map, I can see which pics people view most n abstract pics get lots :)

The moon gigantic in my pshop version but the target is capturing the full moon, zoomed in, another pic of the stars and the view of the city below and combine them in a composite.

Our fairgrounds lit up for Christmas, a one time event the year before the virus

The city after a snow

I have returned a couple of times but this the one time I captured the 'perfect' pic of our mountain from Forest Rose.

Spring from the fairgrounds

   Spring

In this vision, a composite of the sunrise and captured moon

I suppose there are iconic spots every where. Watching pics posted on social media, at times people are in the right place at the right time to capture great photos (by chance)

Sharing with others is great. With photopills (if I ever figure it out) I will be able to share coming events where cool shots can be taken)

With the Pentax I can geotag these iconic views and be able to capture the milky way, star trails

With pshop I can blend images, enhance stars and create photos I imagine.

Google maps, albums and other tools are a major help in planning.

The weather... tricky but knowing what the potential sky/atmosphere conditions will give a clue to packing the stuff or playing on the computer.

I am not so froggy now, old n slowing down but want to create two large prints this year,

On social media there must be many others like me that have iconic places people take photos of. Schools, photo clubs to.

You might figure coming photo events and share them with your community.

People who share the same interest, love to gather in the presence of others to do it.

I went to the John Glenn astronomy place to get a clue of what they were doing .. several were there with their equipment.

On the way home I got a flat and pulled in the entrance of Old Man's Cave to get off the road. Before a ranger came and helped me out, I looked at the sky and it was just as dark in the parking lot as where they gathered to set up their equipment.

I figure most people thinking about selling photos and some do. I don't have such goals... just think about some photo I want to create next and how I might share my love of photography with others.

My website risingpark.blogspot.com

My photo subject: Mount Pleasant in Rising Park.

I guess you could drive around the city or use a map program to find a spot you could get a view of your favorite landmark or, because light travels in a straight line, you could go to that spot and take pics of places you could see and from that spot you could see the places your were standing.

I did that and I will be able to record those places, their azimuth and elevation with the gps unit.
Die hard photographers with $$$ might travel a great distance to capture their iconic shot, but after the booking, planning the clouds might pull a joke on em.

If there are photographers not far from our turf, they could plan events, then if the weather people do not goof up.. pack your stuff n come on down.

From what I can figure out, standing on Forest Rose, these are the views of the Moon and Mt Pleasant.

The meanings of the color moons, time of day and phase of the moon.

Setting the black pin at the thing you want in the pic (mt p here), setting the red pin where you would set up your tripod, press a couple buttons and it will generate when and what phases the moon would be in the pic.
